A Climber’s Paradise

Last week A Plus Tree hosted California Arborist's Association's (CAA) Climbing Skills Workshop in a beautiful park in Benicia. Every year, the CAA puts on this event to give professional climbers in the area the opportunity to learn and share new techniques. These workshops accommodate all levels of ability with stations for knot tying and equipment inspection, body thrust and footlock, stations for throwline and more advanced techniques of entering and moving in trees. Special Thanks to Chad Brey for volunteering his tree knowledge and climbing expertise! And thank you Stihl and Vermeer for sponsoring this event!

2012 CACM Tradeshow

This month we had a booth at the CACM Tradeshow in Oakland...that stands for California Association of Community Managers (www.cacm.org).  And the theme of the event?? Roaring 20's! Who doesn't like dressing up like flapper girls, gangsters and alcoholics?? For our booth, we set-up a greenscreen and provided 3 different themes for the attendees, who got a print of the photo immediately after. We met great people, made great connections, and as always...had fun!

Company BBQ and Training Day: Learning about SRT

Every month, the A Plus Tree crew gets together for some good BBQ, introductions of new members, safety reminders and to learn new rope techniques. This month they learned about a Single Rope Technique (SRT). This technique allows the climber to ascend at a much more rapid pace than footlocking or body thrusting, while saving TONS of energy. To demonstrate its swiftness, we had a climber start with the conventional body thrust technique; When he was more than half way up, another climber would begin his climb using the new SRT technique. In less than 10 seconds, the climber on...

Diseased Elms Removed in Alamo

Last week, the A Plus Tree crew performed the extraordinary task of removing 6 huge American Elms in 1 day! The trees were so large, it took a crane to help remove the massive logs piece by piece. At almost a century old, these trees have been a staple of the community and will leave a noticeable clearing along the tree-lined Danville Blvd in Alamo. Unfortunately, the County of Contra Costa had no choice but to remove them. Infected by Dutch Elm Disease and dying, the towering limbs were no doubt a hazard to the children attending the Alamo Creative...

Reduce Canopy and Woody Growth Safely

Are those roots running toward your foundation? Destroying your asphalt? We all know how costly it is to replace lifted sidewalks, or even removing a tree with destructive roots. But, there is an alternate and inexpensive solution that preserves that beautiful tree, your hardscape, and allows you to reduce canopy and woody growth safely. It's a soil-applied Tree Growth Regulator (TGR) called Cambistat ®. It not only reduces the growth rate of the tree, but redirects the growth to the hair-like root system, strengthening the health of the tree and increasing drought and disease resistance. What does it do? Reduces canopy and woody...

Pruning in Peace

Last week, two of our A Plus crews began their tree work on the Prometheus managed property, Americana Apartments. The peaceful and serene environment is inviting not only to the neighbors, but our Certified Arborists enjoyed performing their tree work on such a beautifully manicured property as well. We attempted to capture our tree service in San Jose at this wonderful property in the short video below: Special thanks to the General Manager of Americana, Lauren Mader, for being such a helpful and friendly face of the property. And thanks to Prometheus for giving us another opportunity to work with...

An Inventory-Stroll Through the Park

This week we did a full GIS tree inventory and hazard survey with our ArborPlus app at Refugio Valley Park for the City of Hercules. Since it was such a pleasant park, we decided to film a short video while we were there in attempt to capture its beauty. We even caught a saxophonist practicing his talent on the top of a grassy knoll. At the end of the day, we met some more friendly Hercules residents who offered us BBQ chicken. Hope you enjoy the short video :)

75 ft Redwood Removal. Watch it!!

One of our amazing A Plus Tree crews removed a 75 ft tall, 50 inch DBH (Diameter at Breast Height), dying Redwood tree in the backyard of a residential home in SF. The San Francisco Art Institute was more than accommodating and let us use their parking lot for our staging and chipping area. We used a crane remove the huge pieces as each section was cut. The stump grinder was also transported by the crane to finish off the job perfectly. The crew salvaged 4 beautiful pieces of the Redwood's trunk, about 80% heartwood, and donated them to the...
