Sacramento Crew: All Business, All Day.

Coolest crew in town. Like a boss, Crew Leader Hugo Rodriguez rolls around town with his tree crew, leaving a trail of happy clients. Like this guy here, in the panama hat. He watched the crew work all week at his community. At the end of one of the days, he went up to the team and told them how great of a job they were doing. Then asked if he could get a shot with them in front of his classic car. Hugo's describes his crew as, "A well-oiled machine, closing out business and makin' friends." And that's how...

A Plus Tree and Rebuilding Together

The San Diego A Plus Tree crews volunteered this Monday to support an incredibly worthy cause. A Plus Tree partnered with Rebuilding Together's San Diego branch to help rebuild the home and life of Laura McGinnis. Rebuilding Together serves needy families and aims to eradicate poverty housing. "We improve lives by building wheelchair ramps, widening doors, ADA modifications, weatherization, and many more home repairs for the disabled, elderly, ill, veterans and homeowners in a crisis who are not able to keep up with maintaining a safe environment." This week Rebuilding Together and A Plus Tree partnered to help Laura McGinnis....

Sales in the field…kind of

In support of the Housing Industry Foundation (HIF) with a mission to kick out homelessness, some from our Bay Area sales and field teams rallied and formed the "Treedom Fighters" kickball team. Unfortunately, we did not kick as much ash as we hoped, and lost in the last round. But, at least we lost to the eventual champions, which made it a little less painful. We DID, however, win the $1000 cash raffle. Which Cyrus graciously gave back to the foundation. We had a blast playing and competing, but most importantly, we knew it was for a good cause. Our sponsorship fee...

#myAPLUS: An Industry of Athletes

Climber Apprentice Josh Hotai climbing with his daughter, young athlete in training. An Industry of Athletes Do you think Steph Curry can do what he does without extensive training, practice and coaching? Nope. As much as talent is involved, so is determination, focus and coach-ability. The work ethic and practices of a professional athlete is not far from that of the industrial athlete. I'm all about fitness training and have 11 years of active duty with the Coast Guard under my belt. I can testify that we have a unique caliber of industrial athletes here at A Plus. There is no “off season”...

The 2nd Life of Oaky

Perched atop the beautiful hillside of Marin and overlooking the stunning view of the City below, a majestic Coast Live Oak stood there for roughly the past 200 years. Oaky (because that’s what we’ve named him) witnessed the rolling hills, full of native vegetation, transform into a sprawling urban setting. He watched the Highlands of Marin go up, observed the life multiply around it, and enjoyed the laughter of the children in the pool nearby. That is, until that fateful day on September, 14th, 2015, when his dreams of longevity came crashing down.  He had been weak for a while,...

If Your Only Tool is Chainsaw, Then Every Problem is a Dead Branch

In the not too distant past, all an Arborist needed was a truck and a chainsaw. Fast forward to 2016, A Plus is in the forefront of a dramatically changing industry. We are running lean and efficient crews. The key to becoming successful is to think outside of the box and work smarter, not harder. Our urban foresters are equipped with a vast arsenal of tools. We use small hand pruners for young trees to chainsaws for giants. One of tools that sets us apart is the awesome Mini Skid Steer made by Vermeer. It’s effectively a portable tractor that...

2012 CACM Tradeshow

This month we had a booth at the CACM Tradeshow in Oakland...that stands for California Association of Community Managers (www.cacm.org).  And the theme of the event?? Roaring 20's! Who doesn't like dressing up like flapper girls, gangsters and alcoholics?? For our booth, we set-up a greenscreen and provided 3 different themes for the attendees, who got a print of the photo immediately after. We met great people, made great connections, and as always...had fun!

An Inventory-Stroll Through the Park

This week we did a full GIS tree inventory and hazard survey with our ArborPlus app at Refugio Valley Park for the City of Hercules. Since it was such a pleasant park, we decided to film a short video while we were there in attempt to capture its beauty. We even caught a saxophonist practicing his talent on the top of a grassy knoll. At the end of the day, we met some more friendly Hercules residents who offered us BBQ chicken. Hope you enjoy the short video :)

Pruning in Peace

Last week, two of our A Plus crews began their tree work on the Prometheus managed property, Americana Apartments. The peaceful and serene environment is inviting not only to the neighbors, but our Certified Arborists enjoyed performing their work on such a beautifully manicured property as well. We attempted to capture our experience of pruning in the short video below: Special thanks to the General Manager of Americana, Lauren Mader, for being such a helpful and friendly face of the property. And thanks to Prometheus for giving us another opportunity to work with such a great company. Find out more...
